How to get rid of red hair dye without going to a salon?

ive been waiting to for the dye to come out, i even tried covering it with brown dye, but the dye just came out and the red is still there. The dye was Live XXL Real Red, and it has faded but i want to go back to my natural colour.





I dont want to bleach my hair, i was wondering about hair strippers or remover? Does Tesco's or Boots sell any?

That being said, fixing it yourself is not an impossible task but it helps a lot if you have some hair color know how. If you choose to try this at home, here are some tips from on how to avoid the biggest mistakes users make in trying to remove hair color.





I have found ONE-N-ONLY COLORFIX , by Jeri Redding, the most user friendly and effective products for retail sales. After reading reviews of the successes and failures of users of Colorfix on follica.com , I went to the source at Conairpro.com to get answers to my questions. Linda was great at answering all my questions. By the way, there were far more positive responses of results from the people using Colorfix on follica.com than negative results. But for those who had bad results, here from the horses mouth . . .

The biggest mistake made by the user Linda says is “not knowing what is on their hair.” If you color at home, I suggest you keep a card file of when you colored, the product name, what type of color and the 800 number of the manufacturer. This way you can determine exactly what is on your hair at anytime. It will be valuable information for any future color changes you want to make. Any hair color you do on your hair remains there until it is cut out. Since hair grows about a half inch per month, just do the math to tell if that color you did a year ago is still in your hair. If you have the phone number of the manufacturer, you can always verify the type of color you used ie; Semi or demi-permanent etc.





Here are the big mistakes to avoid!





The user needs to understand this will only remove permanent hair color.


It will not remove semi or demi-permanent colors.


It will not remove colors such as hennas or Grecian formula (progressive colors) or colors with metallic salts.


It will not remove your natural underlying color.





Don’t make the mistake of skipping step 3 which is the called the “Processing Lotion.” After you use Colorfix, you must shampoo out the product and apply the “processing lotion” for 5 minutes. Within 5 minutes, this step lets you know if you have successfully removed the “dye molecules” out of the hair. If the dye molecules are still in the hair, the hair will re-darken. How does this happen? If the dye molecules have not all been removed, the hair ends up oxidizing on its own and will return to dark. You then would know you need to redo the first two steps, providing it is a permanent color you are trying to remove.Important: Visually after applying Colorfix it will look as if you have removed color from the hair but, you will only know internally if you have removed the color by doing this step, applying the processing lotion. If your hair turns dark in 5 minutes it’s letting you know, these dye molecules are still in the hair. If you have repeated the process 2 to 3 times and this step still reverts your hair back to dark, you probably have a semi or demi color in your hair, which it won’t lift out.





If the user doesn’t understand color, they may easily reapply their targeted color and end up with a much darker color than they wanted. They need to choose a color 2 to 3 shades lighter than their desired end result. Your hair will be more porous on that day and will grab the color, darkening your hair more than the color you see on the box.








A bad smell left on the hair was mentioned a few times in the reviews, to which I was told they need to do a better rinsing out of the product. The directions will tell you to rinse out thoroughly, twice. Another step they can take if the smell is still bothersome, is to make a paste of baking soda and water and put that in the hair and rinse.How to get rid of red hair dye without going to a salon?
I got tired of paying expensive rates for hair dressers so I went to boots and got the garnier pre lightener. After considering it for a while I took the plunge and went for it. My hair was bright red with black streaks, followed by a very dark brown, so you can imagine how dark it was. I used the lightener and after an hour my ends are blonde and the roots still pink, but it is light enough to put a dark blonde or light brown to cover it. I am considering getting another lightener just for the pink bits as I am sure it will remove it. Very satisfied with this product and have tried many before with no good results. But if its your natural colour you want then I think you will just have to grow it out. Try the lightener and then a colour that is closest to your natural colour. Lighteners are only there to strip your hair, you need another colour on top if you want it to look decent. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
You could pre lighten then re colour,as long as you use a natural brown (defo not blond over pre lightner). this is what a salon would do.





Or you could use a natural dye like a brown henna, as long as you don't plan on using chemicals over henna, it is fine.





Tescos will do a pre lightner and hair colours for re colouring, as will boots.


i had dyed black hair, and i pre lightened it out then re coloured with brown and it was a nice light brown result, really pretty.





Back to natural light gingery red now though, i am through with messing with my hair.

If the dye is permanent then it does what it says on the tin, it stays in. If it is a semi-permanent one then just keep on washing your hair until it goes away!





Go to a salon, they will sort you out there, I don't think you'll be able to get the dye out, but they could re-dye it back to your natural shade.
Wear a hat.

I think you should have it professionally dyed because store bought red hair dye fades with every shampoo until eventually your hair reverts back to the color it was before you dyed it.


But if you have it done professionally it will last longer and I hear they've even made red hair dyes that last forever without fading but I have yet to see that for myself.

I recently went to a whole foods store and bought a hair dye called Naturcolor, they have some pretty reds and it is also great for your hair since it is natural. Sally Beauty also has a wide variety of colors and brands.
you can go to a local cvs or sallys if you have one near by. target should have or you can call a beauty salon and ask where to buy a red dye.
Um, anywhere. Wal-Mart. Walgreens. Target. Anywhere.
Just go to your local drug store, they'll have something.

I want bright red hair too. It is red at the moment, just a darker red. The easist way would be to dye your hair a lighter colour and then dye over it with red. I used L'Orial Paris, it seemed to do the job.

I personally don't think 14 is too young to dye your hair red. Hair dying is a harmless and non-permanent way for young people to experiment and try new things. By forbidding it, your mother is turning it into a control issue and making it that much more intriguing to you, when she could be turning it into a fun way for you and her to do something together. Me, I would say ';Yeah honey, I'll do it for you!!';, and take advantage of the opportunity to get to know my daughter(or son, even) and learn something about this marvelous creature I created. Who knows, you may not even like it on yourself, but if you can't do it, you may never know. I am a 49 year old mother of three, now aged 30, 28, and 22, two girls and a boy, so I've pretty much seen it all. Sooo many parents complain that they don't know their own children, but it's usually because they don't even try. Ok, intense copper red is not a natural color....but yes it will cover pink. To be on the safe side, you could use a color remover first.

The first thing u need to know before dying ur hair red, is that RED STAINS. Once u dye it that colour its going to take a long time for it to fade out. Even if its just a temporary dye it won't wash out easily.





Since its only a 6-10 wash the colour of the red is not as strong as a permanent dye. If u dye red over ur dark brown hair it could turn out orangey colour. I suggest you return the dye you have now and get a red permanent one. But still, it could be risky. You never know what colour its going to really turn out to be...





If you really really really want ur hair to be red u should bleach it first. Then wait a week for ur hair to calm down (cos bleaching dries it out) and dye a permanent red over it.
