Would red hair dye work on died dark hair?

i would love to change my hair colour to either a bright red or blonde, the problem is my hair is dyed dark brown/black, and im worried that neither of the colours would take. i cant afford to go to a salon. any tips ? :)Would red hair dye work on died dark hair?
You MUST remove the darker color first. Haircolor was made to lighten the hair's natural pigment - NOT the artificial color from hair dye.

Trying to lighten hair with a darker shade on it already can result in ';Hot Roots'; (very light / bright) an no result on the already colored hair.

Get COLOR OOPS! or L'Oreal Color Zap! or HairColor Remover Kit and remove the dark color first then, recondition and apply your new shade.

P.S. I DO NOT Recommend Bleach Or Hair Lighteners for this job - Bleach or Hair Lighteners are made for lifting natural haircolor, they are not formulated for removing artificial haircolor although they will often work (But not always) they take too long and will cause more damage. HairColor Removers will remove even very Dark or Black Shades in 20 - 40 Mins. Hair Bleach or Lighteners can take 45 mins. to 2 hours for the same result and will remove more of your own pigment and cause more damage, making recoloring difficult and uneven. Haircolor Removers can restore your natural or previous shade unless the permanent color changed it and leave you hair in better condition.

Hope This Helps.

Good-Luck!!Would red hair dye work on died dark hair?
You have to bleach your hair before you even attempt to go bright red or blonde.... I highly suggest you go to the salon if you have really dark hair, but i am assuming they will be weary about doing it because it WILL kill your hair.

@ Home: WARNING.... Will damage your hair!! For best results, buy the boxed hair dye (in the colour you want) and 2 boxes of bleach, not just blonde hair die it has to be bleach! Apply box#1 as directed, your hair will be a nasty orange colour, then wait a day (if you can stand it) and then apply box#2 of bleach, wait another day (if you can) and then apply hair dye as directed on box,,,,, always make sure your hair is dry when applying bleach and colour.

Good luck :)
If you wanted to go with bright red you would have to bleech your hair lighter first then apply the color. Blonde, you would have to bleech it then add toner so your hair wouldnt be orange.
It wont take to your hair unless you bleach it. Ive had this issue and most of the time all i got was a dark red tint you only saw in the light.
I dont think you will look good with red or blonde hair. thats just my opinion...
