How to make red hair dye?

I really want red tips on my hair (I have dark blackish hair) And when I tried this one temp. dye I got a Hot Topic it didn't work.(well if you put the ends of my hair in bright light you could see a reddish shade) My mom is afraid that real dye would damage my hair because of the chemicals that dyes have. Any way to make the red dye or any dyes out there that would be helpful?How to make red hair dye?
Temporary dye isn't strong enough to cover up dark hair without bleaching. I would recommend using Herbal Essences Hair Color which doesn't have as many harmful chemicals as other dyes in one of their red shades [Paint the Town is what I used to use].


If you're going for a bright crayon red though, it would be best to find a bright red permanent dye through Manic Panic or a similar brand.

To make red dye that will last I don't think that's possible. you can dye your tips and if it's too damaging cut them off. simple solution. But i'm sure it wont be too affected.
You can actually mix kool-aid or jell-o mix with some conditioner. It doesn't last that long, but give it a shot. ^_^
