How come when I put a dark red hair dye on my hair it went really dry?

I put a dark red dye on my hair cos i fancied it, and then it went really dry and frizzy. I thought that only happened when you BLEACH hair- help! Why did this happen and what do i do?!How come when I put a dark red hair dye on my hair it went really dry?
its not only bleach, it depends on your hair strengthness. Yours is obviously too weak to take dye. Whereas ive had bleach and tons of dye on mine and its not that bad. But at one point it went really bad, and to repair it, i used L'Oreal Elvive, the gold/yellow bottle, And it was perfect.

Any kind of dye can dry your hair. If it is especially dark and far away from your color, it stresses your tresses. LOL Just get a good conditioner, deep condition once a week, and be gentle while brushing and combing and you should be fine. Good luck!
