What color will my hair turn when I use red hair dye?

MY hair is a very faded, washed out black. I want to dye it a nice, semi-bright red color. If I were to put the red dye on top of my, dark brown color I have now, what color would I end up with?


I dont want to go through stripping the color out, but I want to go lighter.

maybe a dark-red/mahogany, however, if you got it done at the hairdressers it could be the exact colour yoy desire. I would not recommend bleaching it first, a friend of mine did this and her hair went pink!!What color will my hair turn when I use red hair dye?
It will be a muted red...but watch out when your roots come in....s you re-apply the red you may end up with very red roots and an understated mahogany on the length...especially if your hair is naturally mid brown or lighter.
try dark red :)
